A Momentary Moth

It's a fleeting thought
a momentary moth
flutters near my candle in the dark
There's no one else at home
but I'm not alone
there's only me, this candle, and a moth
The more I focus on him…
the light is growing dim
and I think...I'm going out of my mind
I think...I'm going out of my mind
I think...I'm going out of my mind
I think...I'm going out of my mind
It's a sobering thought
a momentary moth
maybe I'm not as strong
as I thought I was
I'm feeling dangerous
It cuts a bit too deep
I feel choked up
and I need a breath of air
It's okay to not be okay
It's okay to not be okay
It's okay to not be okay
It's okay...and I’m not okay
It’s a lingering thought
A momentary moth
You have to keep those thoughts at bay
They never really go away
We may not have the strength to fight
But for my sake don’t put out the light
Don’t put out the light

Try

I poured everything into this one thing
and nothing came of it
I spent all my time and starved for the dream
but I lost much more than sleep
was it the hand I was dealt or just circumstance
the results are the same and I'm tired of this dance
I start to think "what’s the point of it all?”
I gave my whole heart pursuing a love
and nothing came of it
I once had the strength to battle it out
but I fought too many wars
there’s just so much damage a person can take
the bruises won’t heal, bones continue to break
I start to think “I’m a fool to have tried”
I gave it my all and I’ve nothing left
I’m in a dark place and I’m searching for light
we’re given a choice: you either live or you die
I start to think “maybe one more try”
just one more try

The Enigmatic Foe Knoxville, Tennessee
With sharp lyrics, the playful pop bite of the best of the 70s and 80s, and the kind of self-deprecation usually reserved
for a Woody Allen movie, Jared Colinger's lyrics run the gamut from the joy of new love to disillusionment with the old, from wanting to like yourself to being afraid of what we have in our minds.
The new music coming in 2023.
