Hello, I’m pretentious. Who are you? Hello, I’m pretentious. Who are you? Who gives a damn about a scene? Do you know what I mean? As they change from day to day If you will please educate What the hell is “emo”? What does he or she know? For that matter what is “indie”? Is that something I should be? What’s the proper fashion? Can you tell who’s gay or straight? Can my clothes get any blacker? Mascara tears on my face And it’s uncool to be faithful To believe in the unseen The pressure to live to a standard Do you know what I mean? Hello?

I’ve been trying to get close to you, but everything comes to nothing Every time I lay it on the line, you smile at me and say forbidden things Then you brush it off, you don’t feel the same Though you’re miserable, don’t want things to change She wants an asshole “You’re such a good friend”, “you always listen when no one is around” Still she wants a blackened eye So pardon if I told you so I wish you’d realize how much I feel for you Though it’s never reciprocated I know you’ll regret the one you dated Every time you’re hurt you build a wall I try to prove I’m not like all the rest No matter what I do you won’t let go I’m standing here, just please open up Make up your mind, don’t blind yourself Then you return to what you want She wants an asshole, “you’re so convenient”, “not like the other guys”, “so fun to be around” Every time he holds you down to punish you I’ll pick you up I wish you’d realize how much I feel for you But it’s never reciprocated I know you’ll regret the one you dated

No-Life King 03:15
And so you bow again until you're down again You want to fill it up until you throw it up Every day now seems so serene Please be upstanding for the no-life king And so you hang about inside the darkest place You want to own it all until you have it all You look the very best until you get undressed Put on your satin shoes and dance the night away Your life's an opera (it's more like cabaret) Every day now seems so serene Please be upstanding for the no-life king

All your friends have come and gone Just when you need one to stay Maybe you pushed them too far or you just pushed them away company Every faded photograph, yearbooks stacked upon the shelf How long do you think you’ll last when you’re standing by yourself? company So raise a glass for absent company and distant friends who’ve gone away Let’s raise a glass for absent company Maybe you’ll find one to stay (hey hey hey) So raise a glass for absent company and distant friends who’ve gone away Let’s raise a glass for absent company Is it too much to ask for company? Be thankful for the ones who stay (hey hey hey)

Forever doesn’t mean forever It only lasts when we’re together To open up and give yourself To cut off and walk away Things we said and did today don’t matter on another day Give your heart, then take it back Beautiful liar

Don’t worry baby Everything will be alright I took precaution so I can sleep at night I tore the pictures, I took away your voice I would have held you longer but it was not your choice Songs I’ll never hear again What at once was special What was yours and mine has bruised and become tender from distance and from time I made you a blueprint compiling sentiment of songs you once sang to me and ones to fall in love Songs I’ll never hear again

Everyone has something going on Why don’t they stop to take a closer look? Pull yourself together, pull yourself together Everyone has so much more Is it my lot to want everything they got? Get yourself together, get yourself together Some things don’t seem fair by comparison Contrasting with myself Some say you cannot buy happiness I’m sure it’s there somewhere Where I am versus where you are I don’t see how you got ahead of me Did I lack opportunity? Maybe it knocked and I turned away Some things don’t seem fair by comparison Contrasting with myself The grass is always greener on the other side I need to be content in my shoes I want to be things

Goodbye 04:12
What else is left to say I’ve not already said? You took the words right out of me and placed them on a shelf to gather dust with others uninspired I did the best i could with the hand that I was dealt I tried to make you feel by sharing pains and aches I went over your head, I spoke to deafened ear I hoped you would be punished for breaking this boys’ heart If nothing else, for wasting my time What else is left to say to prove I’ve what it takes? I hate to close my eyes because it hurts to dream knowing that they won’t come true I did the best I could with the hand that I was dealt I tried to make you mine by sharing pains and aches I went over your head, I spoke to deafened ear I hoped you would be punished for breaking this boys’ heart If nothing else, for wasting my time What else is left to say but goodbye? Goodbye

about

I had originally intended this to be a five song EP called "No-Life King" which would follow a character's quest for identity, wanting to find love, losing their self in excess, pushing away their friends, having an epiphany and yet ending up with no one. I had everything planned out but then I started coming up with more material though it still follows my original concept pretty closely. After recording Light From A Dying Star with Jason Martin, I had Ronnie Martin, his brother, do a remix of "Shame Shame Shame". I LOVED what he did to it! I had been listening to more and more electro-pop and using synth drum loops for my home demos, becoming a fan of their simplicity and beat. I secretly love disco and dance music but I'm white AND a guy so I just bob my head. My aim for Beautiful Liar was to create just that: a catchy electro-pop dance album which might dupe the listener into dancing to an otherwise depressing set of lyrics.

about

The Enigmatic Foe Knoxville, Tennessee

With sharp lyrics, the playful pop bite of the best of the 70s and 80s, and the kind of self-deprecation usually reserved for a Woody Allen movie, Jared Colinger's lyrics run the gamut from the joy of new love to disillusionment with the old, from wanting to like yourself to being afraid of what we have in our minds.

The new music coming in 2023.
