Mr. C 03:17
Mr. C, We regret to inform you of your complete utter lack of direction. We all know you had hoped to be far along by the age presently. It's not meant to be. We've got a question, who listens to your self-deprecation? You're just another lonely boy with a guitar. You've said it a thousand times before. Don't you think it's pedantic seeming hopeless and frantic, how getting sentiment comes back as void? We still think you have proven given time you will ruin any chance of long-lasting happiness. Don't you hate to undermine? As we force you, you may find that we're never ever going to let this go. To conclude with effect we remind you that we will be monitoring every move you make just in case you forget who you're dealing with. All the best, Sincerely, The Voices In Your Head Mr. C

Black 03:10
I'm drinking my coffee black for it matches my heart and I'm tasting the flavor of the weak drink in slowly, magnifying lonely and I'm longing for something better This is how I like it black: become completely senseless taking a pill for some focus I can hear Jesus calling from a distance but I'm drowning within the white noise A cinematic fade to black You're turning out the lights how I'm craving attention from breathing bodies In my delusion she's screaming for more I can hear sirens tempting me further for one more kiss, just one more touch I'm falling to the floor, bruises turning blue to black the mess runs deep this is how bodies burn, conclusion to end it all finding it hard to breath i'm grasping at sunken cheeks fade to black

Monster 03:56
Monster, failure of youth calls out alone inside his room broken bottles on the floor from some fantastic night ,from some fantastic night
the party's in your head but you went home instead Fractured, burdened by the guilt praying for someone to pick up memories of what is right and wrong you brought it on yourself, there is no one else the picture leaves the frame, you fumble for a name you think of her as you stare through the rain There are no words of consolation only conclusion as you play the scene over and over and over and over again it's like a daydream you see her face and every crying eye you know the cause it doesn't get much easier, no it doesn't get much easier Monster you don't have a clue losing control of what you do repeating the actions every day then you spiral down, you're buried in the ground You never let them near, you're living with the fear
the fear of wanting those forbidden things

Mutual attraction and a fear to move losing every thought out breath I have for you words that leave a paper trail into my heart you spoke and filled me my mind lingered and wondered if yours did too Are you aware how it could be? welling within, escape to save just dive to drown purposeful emotion, denying reason just to wake in a beautiful morning with you To know the presence, to feel that weight in dented pillows and crumpled sheets the knotted vines intertwine the unity in one diving to drown dying to wake to a beautiful morning with you

At this very exact moment Someone’s pressing the right buttons Flicking switches, snatching lovers Rhythmic breathing and white knuckles It’s synchronous Each time they touch The stars are aligning And Venus is coming Two beautiful things Classical and neo-modern Text-book taboo into statue Curving angles wrapped in linen Sexy silken scene surround you It’s synchronous Each time they touch The stars are aligning And Venus is coming Two beautiful things
6.
I can't change circumstance and would i try? Don't let the distance get you down Memories are locked inside my heart of your precious face and tender smile each loving embrace Don't let the moment pass There is an ache inside my heart when you're not there but I will see you again I know I will see you again I will see you again
7.
As I recall…or some cliche That’s how it always starts when you go back again Or with a drink Go hand in hand Or something harder just to tranquilize the brain It’s not the same as it should be It’s not the same In previous lives, in previous times The carefree days, no bills to pay and sans regret One day of birth, passage of rite The rules had changed or seemed like they had overnight I’m moving on while standing still Enjoyed the time that you were here I find it hard, but I never was genuinely happy
8.
So Long 03:44
Someone has touched my darker heart so long, so long Now that it’s out she turns away so long, so long Try to contain it all you don’t know what to do with it You think you’re above me you’re nothing but a hypocrite Only as close as you should be so long, so long To reach out so far, your mouth well-shut so long, so long I read in the papers for an old man’s autograph You could be the putty on the newsprint of my heart I’d take you with me if you were bold to start but you’re content to play the fool I’m quite content to let you so long

It's what it is and life goes on and on every single day you're clinging to make a simple choice to let it go, let go I built a bridge since you don't give a damn at all the ebb and flow is inevitable you didn't think that it would be like this you left your friends without a goodbye kiss now you're lonely, riddled with regret it is what it is it is what it is

about

Black was a labor of love. Finances, timing, travel, last minute song arrangements, technical difficulties were all against me as I began recording. I'd been saving some of these songs for a LONG time. In fact, there's only three songs I wrote somewhat before I recorded the album. Anyway, I'd been saving certain songs from my repertoire for Josh Dooley's production and collaboration. Always respected Josh as a guitarist because we're so much alike in personality and style. I knew he would latch onto these songs and make them sound the way they were meant to be. I was extremely hesitant to use electronic drum sounds again for this album since I wasn't entirely happy with how "Beautiful Liar" turned out. That being said, I loved what Mike Perez did on the albums for Bon Voyage and I wanted that electro/indie/pop sound for my second album.

Recording wasn't always easy but the songs turned out better than expected and the album as a whole contained some of my best work to date. It started with "Mr. C" (indeed, "who listens to your self-deprecation"?) and ended with an empty, reluctant acceptance with "It Is What It Is". Even though I loved every song on the album, I'm most proud of "Black", "Monster", "Two Beautiful Things", and "Beautiful Morning With You". Still..."See You Again" was hauntingly beautiful too.

about

The Enigmatic Foe Knoxville, Tennessee

With sharp lyrics, the playful pop bite of the best of the 70s and 80s, and the kind of self-deprecation usually reserved for a Woody Allen movie, Jared Colinger's lyrics run the gamut from the joy of new love to disillusionment with the old, from wanting to like yourself to being afraid of what we have in our minds.

The new music coming in 2023.
