1.
I was thinking, and it was the first mistake You were beside me with your hand upon my chest Then I slipped away, I slipped away I’m seeing double, a devil and angel on each shoulder Controlling sweet words whispered in silence Tell me sweetly Here comes the twist, you don’t exist You are my favourite hallucination (x2) I’m happily drowning in the sea that I created You were a vision off in the distance coming closer You came to be necessity Once I was blind but now I see You are my favourite hallucination (x2) Reality is killing me so I made you And I don’t mind if no one calls, 'cause I have you You are my favourite hallucination A product of my feverish imagination Created company for conversation You are my favourite hallucination
2.
I want to whisper softly, I have an agenda I want to lay you down to start some friction I’m tired of feeling stupid It’s so confusing Just knowing which part’s which and where they go Pillow talk is all I want Pillow talk is all I want I’m boning up on intellect from a girl with knowledge Forbidden information through conversation Pillow talk is all I want Pillow talk is all I want My thoughts smell like cinnamon My heart reeks of cigarette smoke
3.
You could show me pictures Speaking only in testimony You could be the greatest thing turning out to be a phony You could send me postcards signed with kisses and sentiment Painted pictures of crying eyes Still i wouldn’t give you a cent If I said I had feelings, I’d be lying to you If i didn’t need you, what makes you think that I do now? You could kill me with kindness Soaking up each and every favor Spending only your energy Don’t expect me to pay back later I could focus on the minutiae Lending heart to the common man Only thing stopping me I simply don’t give a damn Carefree indifference Blissfully unaware because I don’t care
4.
Two vessels in the docks by the harbor walls are churning ash and flame The steel bar frame over which they fuss Where we once joined there’s a sign of rust We hope that nothing happens (there’s no guarantee) We hope that nothing happens (there’s no guarantee) Smoking powerhouses, exposed metallic barges End up brokenhearted Which one will survive when ships collide The passion that once lingered between you and me was bottled up and modeled after failed ideals I'm drowning as you're sinking, regretting as I’m thinking We can’t pick up the pieces We’re scattered by the tide when ships collide
5.
The world around me, I have nothing to say and though I’m drowning I’ve got nothing say, nothing to say I need your love more than ever I need you here, now or never I had a future now I’ve nothing to say Friends and companions they have nothing to say, won’t even stay I need your love more than ever I need you here, now or never I’ve wasted all my energy Spent it all on empty dreams I’ve settled for the mediocrity
6.
Oh my, the thought of your betrayal drips down the ballpoint of my pen So you’re the biggest loser of the century Write it down, write down, write it down Oh my, the grim realization Say goodbye to alternate dimensions She’s leaving with a ticket for the countryside But you know she won’t write anymore I’m my own worst enemy I only want to be alone but the enigmatic foe keeps me company Oh my, when did I stop believing that I could control my impulses? What I do I shouldn’t, what I should, I don’t It makes it that much worse just to know you’re gone I’m my own worst enemy I only want to be alone but the enigmatic foe keeps me company

about

Favourite Hallucination is technically NOT my first EP. After getting a new manager, we threw together a quick download-only EP called The Darker Side Of Happy filled with some of my home demos. Months later, we tried hammering out details to record a new EP with Michael Nau of Page France. Scheduling issues ensued and I became frustrated. Sensing my despondency, my former manager suggested I contact Frank Lenz. Frank had been the drummer for one of my favourite bands, Starflyer 59, so I got up the nerve and shot him an email. Surprisingly enough he wrote back saying he was interested. A few months later I saw my first Starflyer 59 show and was chuffed that Frank knew who I was when I approached him afterwards. I also got to meet Josh Dooley and Jason Martin but those are stories from other albums. The recording of Favourite Hallucination took 2 weeks at Frank's apartment in Huntington Beach and I had an absolute blast. We tried experimental ways of recording sound like running the vocals through a "ghetto-blaster" set in the bathroom for reverb, then recording THAT. I learned so much from Lenz. We had plenty of technical difficulties and butted heads over the recording of "Enigmatic Foe" and ran out of time to record "It Is What It Is" but my first professionally recorded EP is dear to my heart.

about

The Enigmatic Foe Knoxville, Tennessee

With sharp lyrics, the playful pop bite of the best of the 70s and 80s, and the kind of self-deprecation usually reserved for a Woody Allen movie, Jared Colinger's lyrics run the gamut from the joy of new love to disillusionment with the old, from wanting to like yourself to being afraid of what we have in our minds.

The new music coming in 2023.
