about

When I wrote "Carefree Indifference" I was in a songwriters funk. I couldn't come up with any worthwhile ideas lyrically or musically so I set out to "confuse" myself. I wanted to write a song that might be complicated to play to wrest me out of my funk. The music is a bunch of major 7ths strung together and draws heavily on "Time To Know-Be Waltz" from the Cowboy Bebop anime movie. Frank's drumming is top-notch though he calls it a 3 minute drum solo. The lyric deals with my response to a scandal with an organization which you could donate to to help third world countries and children. I think there was a misappropriation of funds or something. I also was in a bit of depression so I felt like an asshole for not caring more.

lyrics

You could show me pictures
Speaking only in testimony
You could be the greatest thing
turning out to be a phony

You could send me postcards
signed with kisses and sentiment
Painted pictures of crying eyes
Still i wouldn’t give you a cent

If I said I had feelings, I’d be lying to you
If i didn’t need you, what makes you think that I do now?

You could kill me with kindness
Soaking up each and every favor
Spending only your energy
Don’t expect me to pay back later

I could focus on the minutiae
Lending heart to the common man
Only thing stopping me
I simply don’t give a damn

Carefree indifference
Blissfully unaware
because I don’t care

about

The Enigmatic Foe Knoxville, Tennessee

With sharp lyrics, the playful pop bite of the best of the 70s and 80s, and the kind of self-deprecation usually reserved for a Woody Allen movie, Jared Colinger's lyrics run the gamut from the joy of new love to disillusionment with the old, from wanting to like yourself to being afraid of what we have in our minds.

The new music coming in 2023.
