about

The demo for this song is on The Summer EP and it had a pretty rocking feel. I gave Ronnie full reign on creating the drums and was pleasantly surprised. I still think it's too sparse but I've tried other instrumentation and it doesn't sound good. As far as the lyric, when I was touring the west coast in 2006-2007 it became painfully obvious how awkward I felt playing my songs live. Granted the lyrics are like diary entries and maybe it was pure paranoia, but there was another artist who I played shows with and it was like night and day. He'd play these simple sing-a-longs, get people feeling good, and they loved him. He had a warmth that was in stark contrast to my awkward, bitter, cold, jilted performances and I was insanely jealous. Still am.

lyrics

Everyone has something going on
Why don’t they stop to take a closer look?
Pull yourself together, pull yourself together
Everyone has so much more
Is it my lot to want everything they got?
Get yourself together, get yourself together

Some things don’t seem fair by comparison
Contrasting with myself
Some say you cannot buy happiness
I’m sure it’s there somewhere

Where I am versus where you are
I don’t see how you got ahead of me
Did I lack opportunity?
Maybe it knocked and I turned away

Some things don’t seem fair by comparison
Contrasting with myself
The grass is always greener on the other side
I need to be content in my shoes

I want to be things

about

The Enigmatic Foe Knoxville, Tennessee

With sharp lyrics, the playful pop bite of the best of the 70s and 80s, and the kind of self-deprecation usually reserved for a Woody Allen movie, Jared Colinger's lyrics run the gamut from the joy of new love to disillusionment with the old, from wanting to like yourself to being afraid of what we have in our minds.

The new music coming in 2023.
