about

I always thought this was a beautifully sad song. Since I had set out to do an electro-pop dance album, I didn't want to be so far out there that I wouldn't sound familiar to the fans of Favourite Hallucination and Light From A Dying Star. I wanted to end the album with something pure and acoustic. Ronnie initially didn't know how best to approach the production so we just recorded the guitar to a click and did the vocals. Weeks later he came up with a gorgeous synth backing which cradles everything and fills in the gaps.

lyrics

What else is left to say I’ve not already said?
You took the words right out of me
and placed them on a shelf
to gather dust with others uninspired

I did the best i could with the hand that I was dealt
I tried to make you feel by sharing pains and aches
I went over your head, I spoke to deafened ear
I hoped you would be punished for breaking this boys’ heart
If nothing else, for wasting my time

What else is left to say to prove I’ve what it takes?
I hate to close my eyes because it hurts to dream
knowing that they won’t come true

I did the best I could with the hand that I was dealt
I tried to make you mine by sharing pains and aches
I went over your head, I spoke to deafened ear
I hoped you would be punished for breaking this boys’ heart
If nothing else, for wasting my time
What else is left to say but goodbye?
Goodbye

about

The Enigmatic Foe Knoxville, Tennessee

With sharp lyrics, the playful pop bite of the best of the 70s and 80s, and the kind of self-deprecation usually reserved for a Woody Allen movie, Jared Colinger's lyrics run the gamut from the joy of new love to disillusionment with the old, from wanting to like yourself to being afraid of what we have in our minds.

The new music coming in 2023.
