about

Okay, this is one my more abstract songs. My former roommate recounted a story of a situation that happened at a local coffeehouse. Some teenager was barking about government and the war in Iraq based on the hearsay from a news report...getting facts wrong. An older man interrupted the teen's rant to set them straight only to have the entire coffeehouse yell at the man for imposing. I found story to be too true for todays youth and even adults. They are spoon-fed propaganda and believe things on blind faith and don't keep an open mind or come to their own conclusions. It should be NO ones prerogative to cram their opinions or beliefs down another's throat. As for the music, I prefer my home demo over the album version. The demo sounded like Squeeze circa 1982 with a bit of an etherial quality. The album version is definitely more rock and loses the dreamy guitars and harmonies I had intended.

lyrics

We've given you everything
: the needle & the fear

A global distaste for life
, and all who live within

Oh, hoarse child
you want to make it better

Still you are
uneducated & reeling

Shredding your throat just for a chance at being noticed
Spewing the garbled truth fed by the news of the screws
Combining the old & new from guardian & the modern
into a freakish display of zeal
But do you know what you are saying?

Oh, hoarse child
 you're spending your
time & effort

on the things
you don't understand or believe

what's trendy to bitch & bother

something to bark & bay at

Oh, hoarse child
Hybrid evolutionary

Oh, hoarse child
You want to make it better
I want to make you better
Hoarse child

about

The Enigmatic Foe Knoxville, Tennessee

With sharp lyrics, the playful pop bite of the best of the 70s and 80s, and the kind of self-deprecation usually reserved for a Woody Allen movie, Jared Colinger's lyrics run the gamut from the joy of new love to disillusionment with the old, from wanting to like yourself to being afraid of what we have in our minds.

The new music coming in 2023.
