about

I wrote this shortly after Favourite Hallucination. I believe an ex-girlfriend was back in the area at the time and another friend I had let drift away came creeping back so I was primed to put them out of mind. The original demo was a bit faster but too poppy. I slowed it down, added drums, and came up with a great bass line which Steve Dail recreated note for note.

lyrics

I remember everything like it was yesterday
and the people that we meet standing still in a picture
In a moment of time they come back to life
starting with the words we said, the remarks that we made
and the things that we did burn a hole in my brain
but you just can’t erase that smile on their face

No matter how hard I try
they will still be there in the back of my mind
The people I try to forget

Dwelling on the time and place I first saw you there
and the way that you looked told me that you cared
I couldn’t foresee the ending of things
Distance brought the Great Divide, still I kept in touch
and it was a waste of time, “it’s temporal, just”
But we weren’t o.k.
your lack of communiqué

Still I regret that moment of time you crossed my mind
Now leave me alone, my life was fine without you around
Try to move on, but you’re weighing me down
You are weighing me down, you are weighing me down

When I’m in the brightest place you come back to me
If only as a passing glance, it still is a set-back
I keep getting burned every time you return

The people I try to forget, the people I try to forget
I just can’t seem to forget the people I try to forget

about

The Enigmatic Foe Knoxville, Tennessee

With sharp lyrics, the playful pop bite of the best of the 70s and 80s, and the kind of self-deprecation usually reserved for a Woody Allen movie, Jared Colinger's lyrics run the gamut from the joy of new love to disillusionment with the old, from wanting to like yourself to being afraid of what we have in our minds.

The new music coming in 2023.
