about

This is me ripping off Pony Express. There's only a few sections that sound like a particular song of theirs but I was inspired! I should have cut out some of the choruses and trimmed some musical parts but I am VERY proud of the lyric. It's brutally honest, all-encompassing, and a little too close to home. I hated, for the most part, my high school experience. The cons outweighed the pros and it only made me feel more lost in the identity parade. I felt strongly about going back to high school and just telling these kids not to worry, that it was going to be okay, that I understood them and to screw the "norm". My intention for writing music is to 1.) express what I don't have the courage to out loud and 2.) for the listener who's going through similar situations to feel someone understands. I should play this song more often because it makes people uncomfortable. Random fact: I'm using a Mick Fleetwood drum loop so Mick Fleetwood is technically playing on this recording!

lyrics

There’s a hole in the wall where the fist says it all
Dance upon blades in the hope all will fade away
Mother and father imposing standards
Doors left open for a time to talk
A voice drips down the digital, a comfort in anonymity
Fair-weather friends feel more like family

There’s an image to meet, the criteria is incomplete
and you’re crying ‘cause your looks aren’t good enough
Consuming fashion faster than the pills
The pharmaceuticals just to make you feel
Starve yourself as a punishment
then put on airs in a masquerade
or throw it up to make you prettier

Mobile to mobile, email to journal
Teenagers try to get all the love they can

Smoking their fags, fumbling over girly mags
Banging every girl who’s cheap enough
Your place is neither there nor here
if they think you’re queer

Mobile to mobile, email to journal
Teenagers need to get all the love they can

about

The Enigmatic Foe Knoxville, Tennessee

With sharp lyrics, the playful pop bite of the best of the 70s and 80s, and the kind of self-deprecation usually reserved for a Woody Allen movie, Jared Colinger's lyrics run the gamut from the joy of new love to disillusionment with the old, from wanting to like yourself to being afraid of what we have in our minds.

The new music coming in 2023.
